Chuck Norris

Some kids piss their name in the snow. Chuck Norris can piss his name into concrete.
Chuck Norris once visited the Virgin Islands. They are now The Islands.
Chuck Norris' calendar goes straight from March 31st to April 2nd; no one fools Chuck Norris.
Chuck Norris counted to infinity - twice.
Chuck Norris can speak braille.
Chuck Norris' tears cure cancer. Too bad he has never cried.
Chuck Norris was originally cast as the main character in 24, but was replaced by the producers when he managed to kill every terrorist and save the day in 12 minutes and 37 seconds.
Once, while having sex in a tractor-trailer, part of Chuck Norris' sperm escaped and got into the engine. We now know this truck as Optimus Prime.
Chuck Norris died ten years ago, but the
Grim Reaper can't get up the courage to tell him.
Chuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".
Superman owns a pair of Chuck Norris pajamas.

James Bond

The new James Bond was filmed partly in Prague and Karlovy Vary (however the first scene isn't actually Prague because there is skyscrapers in the background and no skyscrapers in Prague!) so I feel the need to brag a bit. The casino in "Montenegro" is actually a hotel in Karlovy Vary, a spa town in western CR, and I've been there :) Pics below. The staircase in the hotel in Venice is actually the national museum in Prague and the Miami airport is actually the Prague airport...i've been there too I guess.

this is shown when James Bond first arrives in Montenegro:

Anyways..it's a pretty good movie, worth seeing. Lots of action, killing, nice women and stuff and lots of great scenery. The poker game isn't that authentic though....if there is a million in the pot and then you put two million in, you're not raising two million, you are raising one million....what a flaw!! Daniel Craig does a better job than Brosnan in my expert opinion...what do you think???
Blanka and I were in Vienna over the weekend.

Vienna’s Christmas Markets

A yearly tradition in the Austrian capital, the various Christmas markets across the city serve up a lot of local delights. It seems a bit early for Christmas stuff but I guess it's just an excuse to start drinking earlier. The markets are famous for their gluwein and punsch….hot wine and hot tea with rum and fruit. We downed a few of these sweet drinks and they definitely kept me all warm inside. The first food we tried was raclette (melted cheese) on toast….a ripoff from the swiss but I didn’t mind. This was topped with fried onions and dried chives. We washed that down with more hot wine and then had some milk chocolate fondue covered strawberries…mmmm. Come to think of it…these two things are both swiss…but whatever. We had other various treats like roasted chestnuts, potato pancakes and Austrian corndogs. I bought some homemade gingerbread which I ate on the bus ride home…which was also great comfort food. I had white chocolate covered strawberries also. By the end of the night I was really thirsty and washed everything down with a cool Ottagringer, a great Viennese brew.

Outside of the market we had some great street meat. It was some kind of meatloaf (maybe Bosnian) with mustard and pickled chili peppers, delish.

I’ve also posted some pics from a lunch we had before we left…ribs and a potato and pork fry-up! Good eating in Vienna.

Upcoming culinary adventures:

-Prague’s Christmas market

-Christmas in Bosnia….oh sweet pita

-15, Jamie Oliver’s restaurant in London

-My Grandma’s English breakfast….oh sweet heart attack

Cheers, Alex

more enviro stuff

Yesterday, I posted a link to a summary of the Stern report which is gaining a lot of steam these days. An article came out today in the Telegraph (read it here) which is a counter-argument to the Stern report. The author is claiming that all of the calculations and models used by Stern and the UN are exaggerated and basically...wrong. He also claims that some scientists have covered up data from the middle ages when there was a global warming that reached higher temperatures than now. He states that it is the sun that is raising temperatures, not CO2 and backs it up with a bunch of technical jargon that I really don't understand. Very interesting.....I don't know what to believe!!

What do you think?

i'm back....

Yes, it has been too long since I’ve written a post and a lot has happenend since. So I’ve decided to just write about stuff that is interesting to me at the time and maybe that will involve stuff about my job and prague…or not! I don’t have as much time as I used to for personal internet time so I will try to keep these posts coming….but does anyone actually read them???

Anyways…a couple really important reports have come out recently:

-Stern Report on Climate Change: the first climate change report that focuses on the economical impact of climate change rather than ethical implications. It’s a 700 page report so check out the summary here. I think this is the way to convince people and I like how it assigns a cost to carbon.

-Analysis of the health of the world’s oceans: Report headed by a biologist at Dalhousie University that explains that is commercial fishing trends continue at their current rate there will be no seafood to consume in less than 50 years….scary thought. Check it out here.

I have been reading a lot about environmental issues and it really interests me. I’m trying to be a smarter consumer and to change my lifestyle but it is really hard! I know that just being aware of the problem doesn’t make it go away, too bad!

Life in Prague is good. I’m going to Vienna with Blanka on the 16th which is a long weekend here. They have a really famous Christmas market starting on the 18th which we are pretty pumped for….they have great hot wine apparently….we shall sample a few!

My job is fine, they are sending me to a conference in Toulouse Nov. 29&30 which is cool.

Tonight I am heading to a new Turkish restaurant along the river with some friends….then to the shisha bar to chilllll.

I feel like I need some pics on this boring blog :

correction

the restaurant is lebanese/indian...not turkish, my mistake

Hot Salty Water

So I haven't posted anything in awhile so I will ramble on about the things that have been happening in my life.....

AIESEC Conference in Sec - The AIESEC Czech national conference happened over the weekend of 21-23....it was a good time although I didn't get to partake in all of the festivities. The plan: As a trainee was leaving for Italy we were having a going away party at my flat for her on Friday (the conference started on Friday). A few us figured that we would miss the first night to host a wicked bad party and then leave early Saturday and have two full days to enjoy the conference and the lovely scenery around the conference centre. Alex decided to have a few too many drinks on Friday and completely sleep through my alarm in the morning. You probably thinking (or not), why didn't your flatmates wake you up? In my drunken stuper I locked my door and no one could wake me. They weren't pleased with me to say the least as it was my idea to take this early morning bus. My flatmates, Alice, Veronika and a friend, Alp took the early bus while I took a train in the afternoon. I wasn't feeling too hot but when I got up and realized where I was I sprung into action and figured out a way to get to the conference....although a bit late. I had a longer than anticipated stop in Pardubice but it turned out nicely as I had time to explore the interesting town centre. Saturday night was a Global Village party, so the different AIESEC locals and trainees set up booths with their local food, items and drinks. The AIESECers partied AIESEC style all night (choreographed dances and the like)....I of coursed joined in! Sunday was spent chillin by the lake (Sec is in the middle of the Czech Republic and has a lot of great nature around it....kinda like Canada :).

Blanka's week in Prague: Blanka arrived in Prague on Tuesday with two of the biggest and most densely packed suitcases ever...I guess she is a girl, but honestly who needs 30 pairs of everything!?!? We had an amazing 6 days together. First day she arrived she was a bit tired so after some great homecooking we called it a night. On Wednesday night we also took it easy because I had "organized" a day trip to a spa town in Western CR. While I was organizing I overlooked the concept of reserving tickets and we didn't get to Karlovy Vary as early as we would have like to....but it was nice all the same. This spa town is famous for its natural hot spring that you drink rather than bath in....I had promised Blanka some hot springs but we quickly realized that the only hot springs were in the luxury spa resorts which were a bit over our budget. There were twelve little hot spring "taps" that you would drink from (after you bought an interestingly shaped ceramic cup) and it is supposed to cure what ails ya. The water tastes like what it is....hot salty water and the guy selling us the cups let us kindly know that "you drink from the spring, then you go bathroom" .....so this is what they mean by a spa town!!! After our interesting water tasting we strolled through the town which is beautiful and picturesque. Apparently different Russian mafia clans have bought up the entire town and claimed it a "safe" zone....this is a good thing I guess. The houses are built into the hills along the river vallery and there is great shopping and food. It was definitely a great day trip even without the hot springs!

The next few days of Blanka's stay were spent touring the city which was also really fun. We stayed in a hotel for the weekend and had a totally relaxing time. The pictures tell the story and I am tired of writing so check out: http://alexspictures83.spaces.live.com/

PS. work is getting better, my flat is great and Blanka even said that I looked like I lost weight!!!
